Compliance
As a data supplier DLG is bound by UK government legislation regarding data protection.
1998 Data Protection Act
Any company holding personal data in electronic form on living individuals is required to uphold the laws enshrined in this Act. As data owners, and holders of information on our employees, DLG is required to do so. The Act also governs the legality of passing on personal data to 3rd parties for direct marketing.
2000 Distance Selling Regulations
This legislation covers direct marketing as a whole, and requires those selling products in a remote (i.e. not face to face) way to adhere to certain rules.
1998 Telecommunications (Data Protection and Privacy) Regulations
All companies involved in cold telemarketing are required to run their calling files against the TPS suppression file at least every 28 days. Individuals who have opted-in to receive calls from specific companies are exempt.
2003 Privacy and Electronic Communications Directive
The legislation enshrined in this directive governs the requirements of companies involved in the transmission of communications by electronic means (email and SMS). Essentially prior consent (opt-in) is required before using personal data for electronic marketing communications.
